Are You Stuck in a Cocoon of False Beliefs?

My daughter:  "Mom, my friend said that something bad has to happen first so that something good will happen."

Me: "What she probably meant is that when bad things happen, we appreciate the good things even more, but we don't have to wait for bad things to happen to appreciate all that is good.  Good things are happening all the time."

This reminded me of other snippets of "conventional wisdom" based on someone else's fears, thoughts and experiences.  How about we erase those teachings and replace them with more affirming ones?

Old Belief:  Bad things happen in 3's
Yes, bad things happen.  But great things happen in clusters just as well.
New Life Rule:  There is a constant stream of good things waiting to be experienced each and every day.

Old Belief: Good things come to those who wait.
We can spend our entire lives waiting.
New Life Rule: Good things happen to those who go for it. And if it doesn't happen the way you expected, something better will.

Old Belief: Money is the root of all evil.
Money can be used for good or for ill purposes.
New Life Rule: Money is a useful resource and I know how to use it well.

Old Belief:  You can't have your cake and eat it too.
Why have something and not enjoy it?
New Life Rule:  We live in an abundant world.  Just make another cake.

Old Belief: Life is messy.
Life provides opportunities and unlimited choices each day.  Every choice creates an experience.
New Life Rule: Life is creative.

Old Belief: Life is tough and unfair.
Life is not meant to be a struggle when you are aligned with your truest purpose.
New Life Rule: Life is to be lived fully.  Liberate yourself and become all that you have the potential to be.

Old Belief: Love hurts.
Losing a loved one hurts. The need to feel powerful or exert power over another causes pain.  Love doesn't hurt.
New Life Rule:  Love is the most precious gift to be shared and an absolute blessing when returned.  Love heals and unites us all.

What old belief are you ready to let go of?  What would you replace it with? Please share in the comments or on facebook.

Love and blessings,
