The Real Miracle

I greeted this morning's early sunrise as the dark skies slipped away, transitioning into this majestic dawn.  Standing firmly, the cool morning dew soothes my bare feet.  A chorus of insects joins the sound of birds chirping as we all usher in this new day.  I inhale deeply as the refreshing air awakens a sense of great appreciation for all that is.

I watch as gentle purple become pink hues.  Within moments, shades of orange sprinkle in.  My mind wonders away as I imagine what this scene looks like to someone else on the other side of the world.  "Be present," I whisper.  I snap a picture, but then close my eyes, wanting to remain attentive to all that is right here before me...this treasure...this moment.

I breathe deeply and return to all that is happening now.  I continue to breathe in the prana.  Prana is the Sanskrit word for "vital life energy."  This is the time of day when it is strongest...as the first rays of sun shine upon us.  It enters the body through our breath.  I breathe slowly and deeply.

There is a bright painting of red behind my closed eyes.  It warms me.  I immerse myself in this warmth.  It envelops me.  I am filled with gratitude for the miracle of this new day.

"People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don't even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child -- our own two eyes. All is a miracle."
