Pain is not such a gentle teacher as a window into a chapter of Dr. Wayne Dyer’s life reveals. Tales of Everyday Magic: My Greatest Teacher was made available through a free online stream in honor of Father’s Day. In this movie based on real life events, we see that our parents’ teachings come not only in what they did, but also in what they didn’t do.
The film opens with Dr. Ryan Kilgore, a college professor, seeking the father he wishes he had known. “Unfinished business,” he calls it. We soon hear the words from a different father, “The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever.” And yet, we see how unmet needs lead to anger and how this unresolved anger flows over into every aspect of everyday life.
This compelling film is not an unusual tale with life’s mysterious nature and synchronicities. And yet, it is a must see. It clearly depicts that when our hearts and minds open to new ways of thinking and living, we unlock a richer way of being in this world. The message is a beautiful one of transforming hurt into forgiveness and ultimately love. When we choose to heal our hurts…that is how we change the world.
