Choosing Happiness

There are times when we need to revisit the past in order to heal or to reclaim the essential aspects of ourselves that were lost along the way.  But, we tend to hold on to the past for much longer than necessary...past hurts, regrets, mistakes, limiting beliefs, expectations, ways of thinking, anger, etc.  It seems like such a waste of time and energy to hold on to what should have been or what could have been done or what should or should not have been said.  We deprive ourselves of so many other happy moments and beautiful memories.

If you are holding on to anger or a past hurt, ask yourself, how is this serving you?  Who is this really hurting?  Letting go of emotions or beliefs that no longer serve us is an important step in choosing happiness.  We may not be able to completely erase our past memories, but we can add happier ones.  We can replace our old beliefs with more affirming ones.  We can exchange anger for compassion and forgiveness.  We can allow each life experience to help us grow and transform.  We can choose to live our relationships better. 

Happiness is really a choice.  It is up to you to set yourself free.  Today is a great day to start being happy.
