A New Year's Blessing

There is often much reflection and hope when we usher in a new year.  It is not only a time of great celebration, but also viewed by many as "a new beginning."  It is one of the few times we make promises to ourselves and to no one else.  We are motivated to want new things, change our lifestyles and have more meaningful experiences.  We resolve to get it right this time...to do better than we have in previous years.

For me, I resolve that this year will be another happy one.  I will do the best I can each day, making small changes wherever I can.  I welcome opportunities to be of service and plan to walk through whatever doors open up to me.

Here's a New Year's blessing for you.

A New Year's Prayer

May God make your year a happy one!

Not by shielding you from all sorrows and pain,
But by strengthening you to bear it, as it comes;

Not by making your path easy,
But by making you sturdy to travel any path;

Not by taking hardships from you,
But by taking fear from your heart;

Not by granting you unbroken sunshine,
But by keeping your face bright, even in the shadows;

Not by making your life always pleasant,
But by showing you when people and their causes need you most,
     and by making you anxious to be there to help.

God’s love, peace, hope and joy to you for the year ahead.
